Creg Schumann - "Why Scrum Teams Need BSAs"

Creg started his career doing assembly language and C coding.  Like so many people who turn to the dark side, he picked up the project manager role.  He was informed by a good understanding of building cool things, and an early adopter and adapter of agile techniques from the likes of DSDM, SCRUM and other flavors.  Creg has run PMOs and large, or small teams in many industries and solution spaces.  Most recently, Creg presented at the Minnesota Government IT Symposium a half day workshop on User Story Writing.  He is the owner of Orpheo Consulting and has been an Agile Coach for companies such as Wells Fargo, Thrivent Financial, and the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

Scrum says there are only three roles on the team: The Product Owner, the Scrum Master, and the Development Team.  So where do folks who perform business analysis fit into these teams?  How do they contribute to the team and to interests outside of the team they are working with?  Creg explores and talks about various organizations who have gained a lot of benefit incorporating these essential skills into their agile transformation.

Participants will learn to:

  • Understand where and how business analysis skills are employed inside of a Scrum Team.
  • How to support the Product Owner, work with the Scrum Master, and collaborate and create products with your Development Team members.
  • Using your skills in business analysis learn how do you support defining the product to be build, ensure the whole development team gains understanding and feedback from users and stakeholders, and ensure that the completed product is quality.
